Designing for Seasonal Living: How to Make Your Florida Home Feel Like a Retreat

Whether you're here for the winter or soaking up the sunshine year-round, your Florida home should feel like a sanctuary.

As an interior designer based in Fort Myers, I often work with seasonal clients who want their Florida home to be beautiful, low-maintenance, and calming—without sacrificing style or personality. Here's how I help seasonal clients turn blank slates into beautiful, restful retreats.

1. Embrace a Soft, Timeless Palette

Florida light is something you just can’t fake, and it deserves a palette that enhances it. Think warm whites, natural wood tones, soft greens and blues, and sandy neutrals. These colors not only bring a sense of calm—they also feel fresh and timeless, which is ideal if resale is on your radar.

💡 Pro tip: Use bolder colors sparingly in partnership with a neutral palette—like a soft green accent wall or touches of black accents and against bright whites and natural materials.

2. Mix Natural Textures with Clean Lines

Many seasonal homes start as a blank slate—neutral walls, basic finishes, minimal personality. By introducing texture (rattan, bamboo, linen, warm woods) and pairing it with clean modern lines, you create that balance of comfort and elegance that’s perfect for seasonal living.

It’s relaxed, but refined.

3. Design for Easy Living (But Make It Look Luxe)

Most of my clients aren’t looking for high-maintenance materials or trendy statements that will feel outdated in a few years. That’s why I focus on elevated, practical choices—like oversized ceramic tile in the shower for fewer grout lines, or luxury vinyl plank that’s both durable and beautiful.

🌿 Comfort, ease, and longevity are always top of mind.

4. Carve Out Calm Spaces

Retirement or seasonal living is the time to live your best life, whatever that looks like for you—your home should reflect that. Whether it’s an in-home coffee bar, a quiet reading nook, or a spa-like primary bathroom, we design spaces that invite rest.

💬 “It just feels good to be here” is what I want every client to say when we’re done.

5. Plan with Resale in Mind

Even if this isn’t your forever home, good design adds value. We stay thoughtful about layout, timeless finishes, and creating rooms that feel intentional—so when (or if) it’s time to sell, your home stands out for all the right reasons.
